The French Tax Rebate
Up to 40%
of your French spend,
back.
France offers one of the most generous incentives in Europe for international productions: the Tax Rebate for International Productions, or TRIP, often called the French film tax credit. Here is how it works in broad strokes, and what it takes to benefit from it.
THE KEY NUMBERS
- Rebate: 30% of eligible spending in France
- VFX bonus: 40% when French VFX spending exceeds €2M
- Minimum spend: €250,000 in France, or 50% of the budget
- Minimum shoot: 5 days in France for live action
- Cap: €30M per project

WHICH PROJECTS QUALIFY
The TRIP is designed for scripted fiction and animation: feature films, series, TV and web productions, shorts and VR. Projects also have to pass a cultural test, with elements linked to French culture, heritage or territory.
Not eligible: commercials, documentaries and reality TV. On a commercial or a music video, there is no rebate: the savings come from smart planning, the right locations and a partner who knows local rates.
WHAT COUNTS AS ELIGIBLE SPENDING
Broadly, the money you spend in France on French or European talent and crew, on technical and VFX services from specialised companies, and on transport, travel and catering. The detail depends on each project, and so does the final rebate: it’s one of the first things we look at together.

WHY YOU NEED A FRENCH PRODUCTION SERVICE COMPANY
The TRIP is not claimed by the foreign production. It is granted by the CNC to a French production service company, hired to handle the shoot in France. That company carries the application, the paperwork and the compliance from start to finish, and the rebate is paid after the end of its fiscal year.
In other words: no French partner, no rebate. Bloom is listed by Film France–CNC as a production service company.
HOW BLOOM HELPS
Tell us about your project early. We’ll tell you whether it can qualify, what share of your budget it could concern, and how to shape the shoot to make the most of it, from locations to crew and post-production.
